At 20 years old, Hope Partlow already has music industry experience most aspiring singers would kill for. Signed by Virgin Records at age 14, she subsequently performed solo on The Tonight Show, toured with teen heartthrob Jesse McCartney, and had her first single covered by Disney group The Cheetah Girls. She now has a new musical venture – the pop/rockabilly duo The Love Willows (who signed with Decca Records in 2008) that she started with boyfriend Ryan Wilson. Partlow took a few minutes out of her undoubtedly busy day to chat with us about puppies, Marilyn Monroe, and the world’s most foolproof Valentine’s Day gift.

The Interview

Best gift you've ever received?
There are two. I was given some super great sheets and also a heated mattress pad!  I must say that I enjoy sleeping very much and now it's nearly impossible to get out of bed.

Worst gift?
The absolute WORST gift that I have ever gotten in my life was a clock that would "QUACK, QUACK" every hour. It was truly awful.

Well, we certainly can see how it might make enjoying your sleep difficult.

Top 3 things on your wish list?
A PUPPY! A PUPPY! A PUPPY!

She grew up on a 100-acre farm in Drummonds, Tennessee, so when she goes home it'll have plenty of space to run around in....

Which one of these 3 will you most likely get?
Sadly, none of them. For some unknown reason, Ryan (boyfriend/handsome band mate) is allergic to everything known to man except chicken and cheese...a bit exaggerated but close enough. He's the real bubble boy!

Last gift you've given?

I gave Ryan a super awesome surf green Fender acoustic guitar for Christmas! It matches his favorite surf green Fender electric guitar! I did really good this year.

Hope and Ryan came up with their band’s name by combining the first three letters of his last name (Wil) with the last three letters of hers (low). And, as most of their songs are about love, they decided to go ahead and put that in there, too.

Last gift you've received?
Let me start by saying that I pretty much have a shrine for Marilyn Monroe. For Christmas this year, I got three really great pictures of her.

Her favorite Marilyn Monroe movies are Monkey Business and The Seven Year Itch.

A gift you've given that you're most proud of?

I'm almost embarrassed to say but my "mammaw" got so excited one year about getting a Chia Pet. I could see the disappointment in her eyes when she opened the box to find a really nice salad bowl.  I was not going to let her down this year so I bought her two Chia Pets! She was so excited!

Her “mammaw” would be her grandmother, who is now the proud owner of Christmas Tree and Hippo Chia Pets.

What's your go-to thank you gift?
Well, until the day that I can buy everyone a car, I will stick to the simplicity of flowers.

Invited to a housewarming party, what do you bring?
BEER! Just kidding. I haven't been to too many housewarming parties but depending upon the recipient, a big basket filled with all of the classic board games (Monopoly, Scrabble, Sorry, Twister, etc.) would be quite nice.

She'll be 21 in May, so invite her to a housewarming party after that and she might just show up with beer AND board games.

Best un-cheesy Valentine's Day gift?
You really can't go wrong with a nice dinner and a movie. However, I really do love the classic bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates!

If you do want to send her a bouquet, make sure it has sunflowers in it – her dad grew lots of them on the farm, so they are her favorite kind.
